Hi George and Nena,
My cat named George came to me and sat on my lap it was then that I noticed a large wound on the upper inside of his rear left leg. I had to go to see my wife Raewyn at the hospital that day so I took little George to the vet to get an antibiotic and some first aid.
The vet said that the wound would need surgery and it would cost at least $550. I disagreed as the whereabouts of the wound if stitched would tear apart if the cat stretched or jumped as cats do. So I told the vet I would treat George myself and took him home. The vet didn't want me to take him away. He reported me to the SPCA and they came out to see me and they agreed with me that the wound would heal better without surgery. They wanted to see the cat but George is shy of strangers and ran away. So they called again 6 days later and even paid for me to take the cat to another vet for assessment.
I then showed the vet the photo of the original wound and he was impressed with the progress of the healing but gave George an antibiotic to help the healing as the cat was licking the wound and there was a chance of infection. The SPCA followed up with a visit at day 21 and were satisfied with the results as there was very little to see of the wound and even very little scarring.
